Working Alongside James Cook University to Evolve Their Digital Experience

We’re excited to share that Wonderful has started working with James Cook University to support the evolution of their digital experience ecosystem.
Our role spans UX and UI design, helping evolve the university’s digital design system, and working closely alongside internal teams to create a more consistent, scalable and user-focused experience across their platforms.
What’s stood out from the beginning is the genuinely collaborative approach. This isn’t a traditional agency/client model where work is simply handed over. Instead, the engagement has been embedded, practical and focused on building long-term capability as much as improving the product itself.
Large organisations like universities naturally come with complexity. Multiple audiences. Legacy systems and patterns. Competing stakeholder priorities. Vast amounts of content. The challenge and opportunity is bringing clarity to that complexity and translating it into experiences that are easier to use, easier to manage and ultimately more effective for students, staff and the wider community.
Our work with JCU is centred around creating stronger digital foundations. That means improving consistency across interfaces, refining user journeys, strengthening accessibility considerations and helping create systems that can scale over time.
Projects like this are always rewarding because they sit at the intersection of strategy, design and real-world operational needs. It’s not just about how something looks it’s about creating digital experiences that work better for everyone involved.
We’re looking forward to sharing more as the work progresses.
